Yay, compost!!!

Welcome back! :-)

Back in the winter when the empty lot behind me came to be & I thought of the garden, I immediately started making compost. Yes, it's a nasty bunch of stuff, but the soil & worms love it so much & it makes your garden happy.

When growing up, my parents had a HUGE garden that we all had to work in. They always had collard greens, green beans, squash, cushaw squash, peppers of every kind; and we had to bury everything rotten in the ground; fish heads - everything. we would dig a hole at a corner of the garden, dump in the yuck & cover it.

I started it in a gigantic Ziploc bag. In went all coffee grounds, potato peelings, egg shells, onion skins, celery clippings, green pepper clippings - only 'natural' things - no 'food.' Then I would turn it about every week, so that everything could get mixed in all good & yucky.

In lieu of another Ziploc, I'm thinking this would be idea. Isn't it cute? I mean as far as kitchen composters go.

or this:

Much more pleasing on the eye, no? This time, I'm gonna make sure I add in grass clippings, etc. from the yard to make it extra 'good.' :-)
