Greetings! Today Son & I spent 3 hours outside attacking the yard. Three T-shirts under my sweat shirt on this sunny, cool (cold) day, but got the following missions accomplished:
  • dumped dirt out of the terra cottas so they don't freeze & shatter.
  • dumped the geraniums & pulled the impatients even though they still had strong color
  • I left the zinnias (they're so "fall colored")
  • I'm glad mom took the big green/purple choleus (I want my pot back, mom) She can keep them alive over the winter; I don't have that kind of luck
  • saved a pot of dirt to put rosemary in when I dig it up in the morning. I'm sure it can keep growing in the kitchen over winter
  • cut the grass one last time (impulse move)
  • pulled down the HUMONGOUS ball of morning glory vine off the shrubs. I swept up enough seeds to reseed Texas. I dump the seeds back where they grew from. That's probably why the vines are almost like chain
  • raked the back yard; son bagged 4 huge lawn/leaf bags
  • put the swing's cushions away
  • refilled the bird feeder & threw out stale bread for the squirrels (good & bad idea)
  • swept the entire sidewalk, driveway & patio (a LOT of sweeping)
  • felt good down in my soul :-)

Good morning folks! I simply cannot believe we're winding down October already!!! Time is flying so quickly. I am sharing some more of the last of our Fall. Even though a lot of the trees are still green, last week's wind/rain took a lot of them down, so we missed our portion of color. There are still things here & there that I try to catch where ever I see them.

This weekend is sposed to only be in the 50's, but I MUST break down the yard & patio. It involves something like this:
  • dump all dirt out of pots into the garden
  • rinse out, dry & put terra cotta pots in the basement
  • maybe use another Shepherd's Hook for another bird feeder for winter
  • put patio furniture in the garage
  • wrap all porch/patio cushions in giant plastic bags
  • put wicker porch furniture in basement
  • pull up & throw away all plants (impatients, zennias, choleus)
  • bring huge porch plant inside for winter. It hates winter heat & goes into shock until spring, when it pops back to life
  • pull up & throw away anything left in garden. I got the last of the hot peppers. The harvest has officially ended (weeping). Lol!
  • Put "4 'o clock" seeds in the ground; see if they come out in the spring
  • Rake, rake and rake some more. With four trees, including the M.W. (mighty willow), raking is mandatory - constantly.
Well, this is all I have for now. I still have more Fall to share, so please check back soon. :-)

“Autumn, the year's last, loveliest smile.” ~ William Cullen Bryant

Hi Folks! Really enjoying this 70's weather we're having in Ohio - it's been beautiful since last Thursday!! The leaves are turning slowly, yet some have completely fallen! :-( I don't want them to fall until I've had a chance to get them @ full color. These pictures are from a Saturday afternoon walk. Enjoy :-)

Autumn is a second spring where every leaf is a flower. ~ Albert Camus

Hey there, all! Welcome back.

Just a few shots of the slight change in the weather. As you can see, the bees are still busy with the what still holds color (& pollen) for them. I have such a great respect for bees since watching them up close. They're all about their jobs till they drop. Now that's dedication...

In the meantime, the leaves are changing slowly. Sometimes, I'll see a bright red or yellow leaf that catches my breath. It's a promise of what's to come :0)

New "Old" Colors

t

Here are a few treasures from last year. I call this time of year "God's Coloring Book!." The second picture is one I used last year to make Fall postcards. They came out so nice.

I find it very hard to stay inside at when the colors come out. They're amazing :-) I grab my camera, Son & we hit the ground. Son doesn't get quite as excited as I do (in fact... not at all), but he's a good 'assistant.'

Until next time!

No longer planting, but....

Hi Friends!!! As promised, here is we are, falling into Fall. Instead of letting this space sit lonely until next spring's planting time comes back around, I thought I'd share the beautiful colors of Fall in Ohio.

The dude in between the trees is Son, (James) and as you can tell, he's grown tired of the lens. Every time he looks my way, I've got the camera pointed at him, so I had to sneak this one.

The tree base you see there - I call that "Nature's Butt Crack!" (LOL!) I see this tree every time I go a particular way near my house, and it's the fist thing I think of.

Otherwise, these are just a few shots to get me going. Until the season gets into full swing, I may post some from last year. They are pretty enough for a second look (for all of you who saw them last year).

And this year, as I do every year, I will be sending Fall pix to the local newspaper. They publish them w/your name which makes me feel all important and professional (LOL!)

So, please come back soon to see what splashes of color have been added. Thanks for continuing to join me.!! :-)
